File formats are recognized by the filename extension. It may be a single structure file with extension .pdb , .cif or .mmcif .
A file with extension .files is a text file containing filenames or pathnames. There must be one filename per line.

With both .files and directories, the search is recursive; if a directory contain a sub-directory then the sub-directory is also scanned, a .files may contain a directory or another .files , and so on.
Compressed files in .gz format are supported, e.g. .pdb.gz , except for .files and .bca .
